I. God’s long-term goal for your life is fruitful (v. 1-3)
Isaiah 5:3-4 – And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah,
judge between me and my vineyard.
4 What more was there to do for my vineyard,
that I have not done in it?
When I looked for it to yield grapes,
why did it yield wild grapes?
II. Abide in Christ and you will be fruitful (v. 4-11)
III. Keep loving one another with Christ’s love (v. 12-17)
Matthew 22:34-40 – 34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him,“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
Acts 2:1-4 – When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
2 Peter 1:4 – And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.
III. Admitting personal fault (v. 12-13)
Romans 5:8 – But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
IV. Taking positive action motivated by faith (v. 14-17)
