Understanding & Embracing the Mission of Jesus

John 17:20-26

I. Belief is a blessing (v. 20)

Ephesians 1:17-18 – that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,

II. Our unity points people to Jesus (v. 21-23)

James 4:1-3 – What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.

III. We will see Christ’s glory (v. 24)

John 14:3 – And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.

III. Be united with Christ and one another (v. 9-11)

Acts 4:32-35 – Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.
