1/25/15 – Bearing Witness

Bearing Witness

John Stange

Acts 10:34-43

I. Open your mouth (v. 34-37)

1 Corinthians 2:1-5 – And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you
the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. 2 For I decided to know nothing among you
except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much
trembling, 4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in
demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of
men but in the power of God.

II. What has God chosen you for? (v. 38-41)

Ephesians 2:10 – For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which
God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

III. The unrealized power of testimony (v. 42-43)

Luke 7:44-48 – Then turning toward the woman he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I
entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears
and wiped them with her hair. 45 You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not
ceased to kiss my feet. 46 You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet
with ointment. 47 Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved
much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” 48 And he said to her, “Your sins are
forgiven.”

1/18/15 – The Joy of Giving

The Joy of Giving

John Stange

Acts 20:26-35

I. Give the whole counsel of God (v. 26-30)

Hebrews 4:12 – For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword,
piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the
thoughts and intentions of the heart.

2 Peter 1:20-21 – knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from
someone’s own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but
men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

II. You’re being given an inheritance (v. 31-32)

1 Peter 1:3-5 – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his
great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of
Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading,
kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation
ready to be revealed in the last time.

1 Corinthians 3:13-15 – Each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it,
because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If
the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s
work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.

III. It’s more blessed to give than receive (v. 33-35)

Malachi 3:10 – Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.
And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven
for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.

Trusting God in Unclear Seasons

John Stange

Acts 5:27-42

I. “We must obey God rather than men” (v. 27-32)

II. Is the plan of God or of man? (v. 33-39)

Matthew 5:21-22a – “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder;
and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that everyone who is
angry with his brother[c] will be liable to judgment;

III. Rejoice in your times of suffering (v. 40-42)

2 Timothy 3:12 – Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
