Nehemiah 4:15-23

I. God frustrates the plans of those who oppose Him (v. 15-18)

1 Peter 5:5 – Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

II. God fights for His people (v. 19-20)

1 Corinthians 15:54-57 –
54 Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled:
“Death is swallowed up in victory.
55 O death, where is your victory?

O death, where is your sting?”
56 For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. 57 But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

III. God has equipped us with the weapon we need most (v. 21-23)

1 Thessalonians 5:11, NLT – So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

Ephesians 6:17 – Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Nehemiah 4:1-14

I. Turn back their taunts (v. 1-5)

Romans 12:17-21, NLT –
Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. 18 Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.
19 Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say,

“I will take revenge;
I will pay them back,” says the Lord.

20 Instead,

“If your enemies are hungry, feed them.
If they are thirsty, give them something to drink.

In doing this, you will heap
burning coals of shame on their heads.”

21 Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.

II. Set a guard as protection (v. 6-9)

Proverbs 4:23-27, NLT – Guard your heart above all else,
for it determines the course of your life. 24 Avoid all perverse talk;
stay away from corrupt speech. 25 Look straight ahead,
and fix your eyes on what lies before you. 26 Mark out a straight path for your feet;
stay on the safe path. 27 Don’t get sidetracked;
keep your feet from following evil.

III. Remember the Lord in the midst of your fight (v. 10-14)

Ephesians 6:12, NLT – For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
