Nehemiah 2:9-20

I. Expect opposition (v. 9-10)

2 Corinthians 2:14-16 – But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. 15 For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing,16 to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things?

II. Know what you’re talking about before you speak (v. 11-16)

Ecclesiastes 6:11, NLT – The more words you speak, the less they mean. So what good are they?

Matt. 7:24, 28-29 – “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.”

When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 for he taught with real authority—quite unlike their teachers of religious law.

III. Consider the motives of those who jeer you before you internalize their words (v. 17- 20)

Mark 15:29-30, NLT – 29 The people passing by shouted abuse, shaking their heads in mockery. “Ha! Look at you now!” they yelled at him. “You said you were going to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days. 30 Well then, save yourself and come down from the cross!”
