Showing Mercy to Those in Need
I. What are we electing to become slaves to? (v. 1-5)
Romans 6:16 – Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?
Romans 6:17-18 – But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, 18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.
II. Don’t take advantage of your brother when he’s down (v. 6-10)
Ephesians 4:26-27 – Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and give no opportunity to the devil.
Mark 5:25-28 – And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, 26 and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. 27 She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. 28 For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.”
III. Be good to others without seeking anything in return (v. 11-13)
Mark 10:45 – For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
